Our Local Coordinators are the heart of that mission. They connect students from around the world with Canadian host families, ensuring that every placement is meaningful, well-supported, and filled with cultural exchange.

We are currently seeking a Local Coordinator in the Lethbridge Region to join our growing team.
This is a part-time (8-10 hours per week), 12-month contract position that offers flexibility, community engagement, and the chance to make a real difference in the lives of both students and families.

About the Role

As a Local Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in building and maintaining our network of host families.
Your main focus will be recruiting, onboarding, and supporting host families throughout the year — ensuring that our program continues to thrive at the community level.

You’ll also support students during their stay, helping them adjust to life in Canada and ensuring a safe, positive experience. This role is ideal for someone who loves connecting with people, enjoys outreach and community involvement, and has a genuine passion for youth and education.

What You’ll Do

  • Actively recruit, screen, and orient new host families throughout your region.
  • Build lasting relationships with existing hosts, ensuring ongoing engagement and retention.
  • Conduct home visits, complete background checks, and maintain accurate family profiles.
  • Match students with suitable host families and monitor placements during their stay.
  • Visit students as needed and maintain consistent communication with the Head Office and Student Care Supervisor of the Lethbridge region.
  • Respond promptly to host and student inquiries, offering caring and professional support.
  • Participate in community outreach, host appreciation, and local promotional events.
  • Complete reports, administrative follow-ups, and invoicing as required.

What You Bring

  • Experience in sales, recruitment, or community engagement (required).
  • Experience in education, youth programs, or travel (asset).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills — you’re a natural connector.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • A warm, diplomatic approach when supporting students and families.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital communication tools.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle (required).
  • Flexibility to occasionally take calls or respond to issues outside standard work hours.

Job Description:

Local Coordinator & Homestay Recruiter with MLI Homestay

The suitable candidate must reside in the local community of Burlington or Oakville, Ontario

Job Description:
The role of the Recruiter involves locating AND RECRUITING, selecting and orienting host families before the students’ arrival, matching students with host families, monitoring homestay placements during students’ stay, and responding to any incidents for all group and long-term homestay requirements in the region. As local Coordinator, you will be acting as local custodian for the students and will help support students through their experience and share updates with the Toronto office and natural families.

In addition, the candidate will work with the Homestay Management team in Toronto to ensure a consistently high quality of service in delivering homestay experiences.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Point of contact for homestay families based in the region (providing advice and support whenever necessary)
  • RECRUITMENT, selection and orientation of host families for long-term student placements
  • Completing profiles for each family and screening families to ensure families meet the criteria to host and have completed a recent police background check
  • Matching students with appropriate host families
  • Monitoring homestay placements during students’ stay
  • Providing support to host families and students, as problems arise
  • Completing monthly reports and necessary incident reports
  • Growth and management of the host family database
  • Providing guidance and support to homestay families and students
  • Solving host family concerns
  • Working with the management team to ensure consistency and quality in service
  • Handling of daily inquiries by host families
  • Some invoicing and financial reporting

Work Experience required

  • Experience in the sales, travel and/or education fields
  • Any type of youth and counseling work is an asset
