Preparing for Homestay
Your new host family is as excited to meet you as you are to meet them!
The MLI Homestay network of host families include all different types and sizes of families in over 100 communities across Canada. Canada is a multicultural country so your host family will reflect our diversity of cultures of origin. Students who arrive with an open mind and heart will be prepared to enjoy life with a family that may be very different from your own.
Your new host family is ready to look after you, care for you, and treat you as they would their own family member. They will provide you with 3 meals daily, a private room and study area in a friendly, supportive and nurturing environment.
Your role is to participate fully in family life – joining in family activities, helping out with small chores along with the other family members and taking responsibility for your day to day life. Talking about your reactions to Canadian lifestyle and how you are finding things at school will help your host family to help you adapt. Your new family wants to hear how you are doing, and talking with them will also improve your English communication skills.
