Shelley Sammon, Homestay Coordinator Ontario, Carleton Place
I am a people person at my core and passionate about genuine kindness towards each other. I enjoy leaning how we are different around the world and I try to encourage compassion each day with one little act of kindness at a time.
Though my education is in psychology and fundraising, my adult career has been spent in the culinary industry as an owner/operator of my own café/pub and 13 years as a culinary coordinator.
Our community offers many opportunities for volunteering, I am involved in Mississippi Mudds Youth Theater, Community Care Access Center, and our local farmer’s market and food bank. Our family has been hosting international students for many years, I encourage our students to participate in school activities, shop local and volunteer in community organizations to enhance their international experience.
I enjoy cooking, listening to music, gardening, and pottery but most of all I relish sharing time at our cottage on the lake with family and friends.
I am delighted to be part of the MLI team as a Homestay Coordinator. It is my priority, together with the MLI team, to ensure a safe and positive experience for international students while they are living in my community. My goal is to provide host families that will create lasting memories for students and nurture international friendships.
